Since 2003 Guillermo has been the principal investigator of five CRC for Construction Innovation research projects including ‘Business Drivers for BIM’, ‘Mobilising Construction’, ‘eBusiness Adoption in Construction’, ‘Automated BIM Estimator’ and more recently he was appointed RMIT Project Leader for the CRC-CI 'BIM National Guidelines and Case Studies' (2008-2009).
Guillermo trained as an Architect in Mexico and Spain (1992-1996). He holds a Master degree in European Construction Engineering from Loughborough University and a PhD in Design and Construction Management from The University of Reading both in the United Kingdom (1997-2003).
Most recently Guillermo completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Virtual Design and Construction [VDC] at Stanford University, Palo Alto, Cal. under the direct supervision of Prof. Martin Fischer and John Kunz (2008–2010).
He has worked in collaboration with a number of private and public sector industry and research partners including Australia's national research organisation the CSIRO, Queensland Department of Public Works, Queensland Department of Roads, The Building Commission of Victoria, John Holland Group, Rider Hunt, Woods Bagot Architects and ARUP.
Completed supervised PhDs. "The Evolution of Workplace Architecture" by Agustin Chevez. Scholarship obtained from CRC for Construction Innovation and Woods Bagot Architects.
Guillermo is a Conjoint Academic to The School of Architecture at The University of Newcastle, Australia and SIM University, Singapore where he travels to lecture twice or three times a year.
<2008-2010 Stanford> Completed a Certificate in Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) at Stanford University (CIFE). Including theoretical (lectures at Stanford University - Sep 2008) and practical components (design and build a project applying VDC/BIM tools and techniques). Completion sessions at Stanford Dec. 2009.
